Wildfire safety and preparedness for California homeowners
Our unique safety program emphasizes protecting your family as well as your home. When we insure your California home, we determine if its location is at a moderate to high risk for wildfire. If it is, a fire prevention expert will visit your home to develop a comprehensive plan to help you keep your family and home safe.
Program elements
To develop our program, we worked with key members of fire departments in California. The program contains two key elements:
- Fire threat reduction plan: You receive a detailed report focusing on three key elements of prevention: creating a defensible space, reducing or replacing flammable vegetation, and improving the fire resistance of the home. The fire safety expert can help you carry out the plan and will verify completed improvements, which may reduce your premium payments.
- Emergency safety plan: The fire safety expert will help you develop an emergency safety plan that addresses such topics as evacuation routes, emergency meeting places outside the home, the locations of utility shut-off devices, procedures for conducting a family fire drill, and contents of emergency supply kits for the home and vehicles.
