1. What is the immediate effect of the ACE acquisition on my Atlantic Master Plan policy?
Your current policy is now 100 percent reinsured by ACE. Reinsurance is a way that insurance companies pass the benefits and risks of policies they write among themselves. For you, the reinsurance means that the company that issued your policy now has the added protection of ACE for the claims you and all other Atlantic Master Plan policyholders might make. ACE holds an “A+” rating from both A.M. Best and Standard & Poor’s.
Everything else stays the same. The coverages in your current policy are unaffected. Your independent agent remains the same, and the people who service your policy remain the same — only now they work for ACE instead of Atlantic. Even the phone numbers remain the same.
2. What will happen when my policy comes up for renewal?
If your Atlantic Master Plan policy comes up for renewal after the ACE Platinum Portfolio is available in your state, ACE will work with your independent agent to help you consider the possibility of switching to the ACE Platinum Portfolio. If you choose the ACE policy, you will need to cancel your current Atlantic Master Plan policy.
If your policy comes up for renewal before the ACE Platinum Portfolio is ready, you will receive a renewal offer from the company that currently issues your Atlantic Master Plan policy, subject to underwriting standards. ACE Private Risk Services will continue to provide the service for your policy.
If your policy includes homes, autos, and other exposures in multiple states, there is a chance that the ACE Platinum Portfolio will be available in one state and not the other at the time of renewal. You should call your agent to discuss what happens in this instance. ACE intends to expand the availability of the ACE Platinum Portfolio to most states throughout the country by the end of 2009.
3. What are the financial strength ratings of the ACE companies that will issue the ACE Platinum Portfolio?
The companies with the ACE Group that will issue the ACE Platinum Portfolio policy are rated “A+” by both A.M. Best and Standard &Poor’s.
4. Will I work with the same people if I have a claim or want to make a change to my policy?
Yes. First, your independent agent remains as your primary point of contact for matters concerning your policy. If you need to report a claim directly to us, call our same toll-free number: 1-800-945-7461 or, if you reside in California, 1-800-811-3079. The people who answer the phone and handle the claim will be the same, only now they are ACE employees.
5. Will my premium change?
The premium for your current policy will not change as a result of the acquisition by ACE.
If you choose to switch your policy to ACE once the ACE Platinum Portfolio is available, your premium may rise or fall due to a variety of factors, including rates approved by state insurance departments. Overall, ACE is committed to providing superior value for the superior coverage and service it will provide through the ACE Platinum Portfolio program.
6. Why did ACE acquire the personal lines business of The Atlantic Companies?
Atlantic’s personal lines business was an excellent complement to ACE’s existing personal lines operations, which include recreational marine (e.g., power boats, sailboats, yachts, personal watercraft) and fine art. The acquisition presented the opportunity to bring these capabilities together with ACE’s financial strength and capacity to offer a leading personal lines set of products to the high-net-worth market.
Atlantic had an outstanding claims reputation and a solid technology platform to support this business. Best of all, their people had deep experience and a passion for serving customers, and they were recognized across the industry for their customer service. For example, recent regulatory data revealed auto policyholders in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut, three of the company’s largest markets, registered zero customer complaints — a remarkable customer satisfaction record.
ACE has ambitious plans to expand and grow its personal lines business both domestically and overseas, utilizing the global ACE network to serve customers with assets around the world.
7. Whom should I contact if I have more questions?
As always, your independent agent is the best place to start if you have more questions. The phone number and address of your agent are listed on the Declarations page of your insurance policy.
